Long weekend 1 of 3

I booked Thursday 11th and Friday 12th off work, so that I could tend to Eliza while Frank got caught up on his work around the house.

My checklist for those two days was as follows:

  • Clean all globes on the entry chandeliers
  • Create a faux leaded-glass effect on our front door
  • Finish the upholstry on the entry suite
  • Clean the drawing room chandelier
  • Clear the kitchen

Another project for the to-do list

Chair Covers.

Oh – hang on. Let me back-track.

I’ve been researching stencilling for our Mezannine (see http://hilda.hhandg.com/?p=184), and have once again thought about stencilling throughout our entire house.

Our walls are painted solid colours. We didn’t buy wallpaper, because 1) we spent so much time taking the old wallpaper off 2) it’s SOOO expensive 3) if you do buy expensive wallpaper, it seems a shame to have to strip it off and replace it down the line 4) and even if you did decide to do that, I’m not too sure how wallpaper would strip off of drywall.

Manifesting

A friend of mine has mentioned “manifesting” many times.

Manifesting is defined as the materialization of something.

I grew up being taught “ask and you shall received”.
I know that there have been many times over the 26 years of my life when I’ve asked for something, and it’s (directly or indirectly) come to pass… but I’ve never really felt that I’m controlling it per se. Maybe I’ve just been blind to what’s happening.

Next year’s garden

I believe (hope) that we are finally at a point where we can start planning for our formal sculpted garden (dispite the fact that we’ve not even harvested all from this year’s garden!).

It might sound odd that I’m coupling the words ‘formal garden’ with ‘harvest’, but I am planning on planting along ‘Companion Planting’ guidelines, and mingling flowers and shubbery with fruits and vegetables

What do I want more or less of?

Canning Calculations

Our garden this year has seemed to fall behind others’ gardens.

The veg is looking great, but everything has seemed 2 weeks behind ‘normal’ production schedules that I’ve seen elsewhere.

Of course, some of this could be because we have non-gm heirloom plants, rather than special everything-tolerant plants. I don’t know.

I printed out a copy of our 5-week menu and started by identifying which meals have a base of tomatoes.

I figured that the cycle repeats itself 10.4 times in the year, so I rounded that up to 11.

Definitions

My desire for my role in the household falls somewhere between the Victorian Mistress of the House, and the concept of the Stepford Wife.

I love the concept of command that the Victorian women had over their household, but also hold close the position of the woman as very much subordinate to her husband, doing all in her power to please him and sate his desires.

My ideal would thus be expressed as a medium between somber organization and happy-go-lucky air-head! (Could I have picked two more contrasting descriptions?).
